Volunteer Job Descriptions

Listed below is a brief description of the volunteer positions you may sign up for during the season; those roles not listed will be assigned as they require experience and/or training. Please be aware that if your swimmer is participating in the meet, then you WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK THAT MEET. See the Volunteer Opt-out Rules and Fees section below if you do not wish to work the meets. Also, if you have a bullpen aged child, you can expect to spend at least one meet as bullpen parent.

  • LANE TIMERS: Records the swimmer’s time. Each timer is provided a stopwatch and assigned a lane; there are two timers for each lane. Both times are recorded. Timers are assigned to work for one half of the meet. This job gives you the best view of the pool and the swimmers during their races.
  • BULLPEN PARENT: Supervises the waiting area for a particular age group during meets, marks arms of swimmers with event/heat/lane, keeps track of swimmers - as best as they reasonably can - between events, and gets swimmers to the Bullpen Manager on time with caps and goggles. If you have a child in the bullpen age groups (6 & under through to 12) you can expect to be the Bullpen Parent for at least one meet. This position is obviously more important for the younger swimmers, and the Bullpen parents for the youngest ages (6 & under and 7-8) are especially critical to the timely start of the meet. This job keeps you with your swimmer during the whole meet. Bullpen parents will work one half of the meet only.
  • BULLPEN ESCORT: Chaperones the swimmers from the bullpen manager’s holding area to the correct side of the pool for their race, and back again, particularly for the younger swimmers and relays.
  • CONCESSIONS: Sells concessions. Helps set up and tear down concession stand. Assigned to work for one half of the meet.
  • RUNNER: Collects timers’ sheets from every lane and placement judge after every 7th event and takes them to the master recorder.

Volunteer Opt-out Rules and Fees

Parent volunteers are essential to the operation of each swim meet, both home and away. If your child is swimming in a meet, then you will be required to work one half of that meet.

If you are out of town, and a relative or friend is bringing your child(ren) to the meet, they may work in your place. Otherwise the opt out fee will be collected.

Opt out fee for not fulfilling a volunteer role is $30 per meet. This fee allows us to employ someone to fulfill your duty.

If you wish you may opt out for the whole season and pay $150 now, or you may opt out for 1 (or more) meets throughout the season. Minimum notice of ONE week is required for opting out during the season.

Failure to show at a meet for a role that you have signed up, for a reason other than your child not swimming due to illness, will result in the opt out fee being collected. Failure to pay the opt out fee may result in your swimmer being unable to compete in subsequent meets until the fee is paid.

On behalf of Swimmer, myself, my spouse and our heirs, personal representatives and next of kin, I HEREBY RELEASE THE ATLANTA SWIM ASSOCIATION and CAPITAL CITY SPORTS, INC , its directors, officers, agents and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agencies, facility owners and lessor, sponsors and advertisers (the "Releasees"), WITH RESPECT TO ANY AND ALL INJURY, DISABILITY, DEATH, or loss or damage to person or property incident to Swimmer's involvement or participation in the ASA Programs, WHETHER ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF RELEASEES OR OTHERWISE, to the fullest extent permitted by law. 5. On behalf of Swimmer, myself, my spouse and our heirs, personal representatives and next of kin, I HEREBY INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS ALL THE ABOVE Releasees from any and all liabilities incident to Swimmer's involvement or participation in the ASA Programs, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THEIR NEGLIGENCE, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
